A calorie is defined as a unit of energy equal to the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water through 1degree Celsius. A small calorie is defined as unit of energy equal to one-thousandth of a large calorie. A calorie is needed for our body to produce the energy and the weight of the weight of the body.
One pound of body weight is equal to 3500 calories. Therefore in order to lose one pound of the weight of a body, it is needed to create a deficit of calories amounting to 3500. This can be done by reducing the intake of calorie or even by increasing the expenditure of the calorie in the body.
Or it can also be the combination of both the methods. But to maintain a particular weight some amount of calorie is certainly required. If there are no calories inside a body the body would not have any weight and which is impossible. So, an amount of calorie intake is necessary but it should not cross certain limit.
Hence we see that calories and weight loss go hand in hand. Weight of a person cannot be decreased if calories are not restricted or the person’s metabolism rate is fast enough to burn all the calories that are being consumed.
The exact number of calories which is required to be shed for a perfect weight loss is quite difficult to calculate but an it should be done in such a way that it helps in optimal weight loss. A rigorous work out can increase the metabolic rate in a person which on the other way will burn the extra calories one has gained.
In this method it is not known that how much one has to workout for burning the extra calories. If the two methods are practiced together, like less calorie intake as well as work out then a better result can be expected.
There are few tools for calculating the calories, like calorie calculator, BMI calculator and so on.
There are roughly 4 calories in each gram of carbohydrate or protein but 9 calories in a gram of dietary fat, alcohol contains 7 calories per gram. To reduce the calories one must restrict the intakes of these foods and drinks.
